THE PRESENCE OF ABSENCE / RUBY

RUBY IS PART OF THE GRADUATION PROJECT “THE PRESENCE OF ABSENCE“ THAT EMPHASIZES THE POTENTIAL OF THE INVISIBLE, WHICH STIMULATES OUR IMAGINATION.

A NATURAL PHENOMENON DISPLAYED IN A PIECE OF GLASS TINTED BLUE BY AN IRON SPLINTER WHICH GOT LOST IN A GLASS FACTORY‘S ABANDONED FURNACE BECAME THE INSPIRATION FOR A NEW SERIES OF GLASS OBJECTS.
WHAT WAS AT FIRST A RANDOM EFFECT TRANSFORMED INTO A CULTIVATED FEATURE. BY REPLACING WOODEN MOULDS WITH COPPER SHEETS THE LIQUID GLASS IS SHAPED. MOREOVER THE MOUTHBLOWN CRYSTAL GLASS REACTS WITH THE COPPER-OXIDE CREATING A TREASURE TROVE ENRICHED BY ORNAMENTAL ELEMENTS AND NATURAL RUBY COLOUR.
THE HAND-BLOWN MANUFACTURING PROCESS BEAUTIFULLY BALANCES THE RAPID-PROTOTYPED MOULDS AND PRESERVES INDIVIDUAL ELEMENTS IN THE FINAL PRODUCT. THE IMPRINT OF THE DELICATE CAST EMBODIES A PRESENCE OF THE ABSENCE.
