THE BERLIN GOURMET RESTAURANT x THE CIRCLE GLASS
Maaemo, Oslo’s ground-breaking three Michelin starred restaurant reopened its doors at the new location in 2020. Run and co-owned by Head Chef Esben Holmboe Bang, the Reataurant focusesses on a complete experience. In doing so, they aim to highlight the relationship between the raw produce, and the finished product.
When I was aked to send my Circle Glass up North to Maaemo, I felt like the waterglasses were coming home to their northern family. Thank you for having us!
In 2015, I was asked to design the new water glass for the opening of Berlin´s gourmet restaurant einsunternull. After the first hours we spent together over a great lunch, talking passionately about our shared vision for craft, incredible raw and delicate produce, authentic sustainability, our hometown berlin and Ivo´s high ambitions for his upcoming einunternull gourmet restaurant, I knew I would take the challenge. With full creative freedom and trust, I created the first hundred pieces of handmade finest glasses, all individually shaped in soft offround silhouettes of waved copper. Only after cutting the initial production we realized, that they were much too thick, so we aimed for a much finer glass and were rewarded with the most delicate silhouettes. The incredibly fine offround outline became the characteristic feature of the Circle Collection. Every glass designed to be one of a kind.
At the opening night of the restaurant, the hand-thrown Silhouette porcelain by Schoemig Porzellan and my new CIRCLE Collection were launched. Customers immediately started asking to take home their individual Set of Glasses and we decided selling the glassware in the restaurant. After a night of fine dining the visitors could take home a memento of their extraordinary experience. In 2016, the restaurant has been awarded a Michelin Star. After all pieces of the initial edition were sold out, I decided to develop the experimental collection with a prestigious glass partner to offer them to our customers. Since 2018 the glasses are manufactured in cooperation with Lasvit and available regularly for our customers.
